Sweet pea, raw cashew, fresh floral aroma
Introducing a brand new tea. You don't get to say that very often.
Chin Yu TTES no.22 cultivar has been bred from crossing two of Taiwan's favourite varieties TTES No. 12 Jin Suang and Chin Shin cultivars by Taiwan's Tea Research and Extension Station (TTES).
Even though the new variety was officially approved in 2015 it takes an enthusiastic tea farmer and at least three years growth before new seedlings can produce a harvest.
We've been able to secure a new pick of rolled ball style oolong with no baking, just dried only.
This is an interesting style to sample, to get a sense of the personality and characteristics on offer.
The dry leaves are fresh light to darker olive greens, the irregular oolong balls open out to two to three leaves with tips on a stem.
The taste is light, bright, clean, fresh and sweet, with a clear light yellow liquor colour and a fragrant flower aroma. Sweet pea, raw cashews and light buttery flavours linger pleasantly.
Whilst 90C is a good sweet spot to brew this tea we've tested at 100C and with longer brewing times and found it handles the high temperature very well with little if any astringency.
Enjoy something new with much promise, you'll be rewarded by your curiosity, as we were.
